Matt's unique style of playing has seen him featured on more than 25 recordings over a 20 year career. He teaches from his studio based in Melbourne, Australia and his drumming workshops are in high demand both in Australia and Internationally. Growing up in one of the worlds most multi-cultural cities, Matt was able to learn many
different styles with drummers from Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey and Greece. With this 'melting pot' of styles, techniques and experiences he then left to study percussion in Turkey, Iran and Scotland. He has held workshops, performed, recorded and documented music in countries such as Bali, Germany, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Ireland. Before his life was dedicated to rhythm, Matt was a melodic musician majoring on the Mandolin
and Guitar. Whilst playing in Turkish groups such as 'Gece' and the North Indian inspired band 'Naad,' he gained a true insight as to how a percussionist should play for melody instruments.
Having this first hand experience with melody, gives Matt a unique ability to teach drumming from the perception of a string musician. |
